The number of bingo players who have taken their bingo entertainment online has doubled in the United Kingdom over the past year – from 250,000 to 500,000 – over nearly 250 registered online bingo sites.
These statistics were released by the UK Gambling Commission, which showed that the popularity of online bingo is growing at an enormous pace. Industry experts were asked to give their opinion on the reasons for why traditional bingo is losing its appeal and online bingo is rising in popularity, and the responses were interesting.
Take, as an example, the comments by 888 Holding’s CEO, Gigi Levy, who headed his company’s launch of the impressive new niche site, 888 Ladies. “Online bingo is booming everywhere,” he said, “But it’s a mistake to link it to traditional bingo, because that’s a completely different proposition. Our women are young, above average income and typical internet consumers. Land-based bingo is about elderly people, smoking and aggressive slot machines.”
Steven Baldwin, the Chairman of the UK Bingo Association thinks differently, however, and believes that there is room for both online and traditional bingo. “When online bingo was invented, land-based bingo feared the competition,” he said. “Now they have realised there is only a 10 per cent crossover of their players.”
Naturally, there are many arguments in favor of online bingo gambling. These include the convenience factor, the diversity of online bingo games that cannot be found at traditional bingo rooms, as well as the chance to take advantage of an online bingo bonus or two.
Whatever the reasons, we can’t argue with facts. The growth of online bingo remains stronger than ever!
