2008: The Year that Was for Online Bingo
2008 proved to be one of the most successful years for the online bingo industry, despite tough global economic conditions.
When the online bingo industry looks back to 2008, it will see a year of flourishing new sites, bigger than ever prizes, bingo room revamps and statistics showing just how far this market has come in a relatively short space of time.
2008 saw the launch of one of the most successful bingo sites to date, Wink Bingo, which continues to lure the crowds with a marketing strategy that seems to hit the nail on the head. This was also the year that a number of bingo networks launched several new sites, such was the case of the Cashcade Group that released three new bingo rooms at once.
Those who weren’t expanding were upgrading. Some of the top sites in the industry, including Paddy Power, got a make over this year in order to make their products more appealing to bingo players in an increasingly competitive market.
Other moves taken by bingo sites to woo the crowds included increasing their bonuses and prizes. 2008 was a record year in terms of the welcome bonuses handed to new players, as well as first prize jackpots such as thousands of dollars in cash, brand new cars and other superb winnings.
Foxy Bingo also came tops in 2008 after it agreed to pay out one lucky player 50,000 GBP in a guaranteed bingo jackpot game, although the prize was supposed to be be 500 GBP only. The reason for the mix up was a printing error on the site, but Foxy Bingo stepped up and took responsibility for the error.
As the bingo industry looks towards 2009, it can be proud of its achievements. The market is currently competing for top spot with online poker as being the most entertaining and sought after internet game available. And if the coming year looks anything like 2008, there’s no guessing where we’ll be putting our bets! Happy New Year!
